Ocean to Ocean Bridge

During the winter months, sun-seekers from Canada and the US snow states flock to visit Yuma to bask in the sunshine, take part in the full calendar of events and outdoor activities, and hop over the US/Mexico border to Algodones for medical or dental care–or even better, shop and enjoy a margarita!

Spring is vibrant with desert wildflowers, a host of culinary events, theatre performances and musical shows, and plenty of downtown shopping. Summer is definitely on the warm side, but our visitors love to go swimming or tubing, canoeing or kayaking down the beautiful Colorado River.

Birding is a popular year-round activity, especially in the East and West Wetlands in the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area or at one of the area wildlife refuges including Cibola and Kofa National Wildlife Refuges.

One of the best ways to start the day in Yuma, is to catch the morning sunrise at the East Wetlands, and to follow the trail along the Colorado River whilst viewing herons, egrets, ospreys, coots, and killdeer. You may get lucky and even see a beaver!

The West Wetlands also provides brilliant sunrise and sunset views, along with a lovely hummingbird garden and butterfly garden to explore.

The Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, the East and West Wetlands and Gateway Park, are all within walking distance and a few minutes driving distance from the historic Coronado Motor Hotel.

Enjoy this online jigsaw puzzle of a beautiful Yuma Sunrise over the Colorado River in the East Wetlands. You can also see the Yuma State Historic Prison and Yuma’s Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge from the East Wetlands.
